Since being ordained in 2012, Deacon Rick has delivered nearly one hundred homilies. He preaches regularly at his home parish of St. Pius X in Indianapolis, as well as at school Masses at Bishop Chatard High School, where he serves as principal and vice president for mission and ministry. Deacon Rick says this about his homilies: “It is always my hope to make Scripture come alive for the congregation. I want them to hear the message of the Word presented in a new way. My ultimate goal is to offer them practical application—to give them real ways to live out the gospel message in their everyday lives.” People relate well to Deacon Rick’s homilies. He shares stories of his childhood. He incorporates the joys and challenges of being a husband, father, and educator into his homilies. He has experienced what those sitting in the pews have experienced, and he reads and interprets Scripture through the lens of that experience.
