"A B C Doxology" (doxology, meaning a short hymn of praise), is an alliterated alphabet intertwined with Psalm 148, ornamented with creatures expressing, each in turn, their awe toward each other and their Maker who vows to preserve them. Altogether, they recall and rejoice in the promise of God that he will send a Deliverer, and that His universe will never be destroyed. This book is for either children or adults, with curious words and animals, flowers, birds, minerals, and other objects corresponding to each letter. Although an alphabet picture-book, the vocabulary and images are appropriate for advanced readers for a few minutes of respite. Non-readers naturally respond to the images in the book with 'point-to' games. The appendix features a list of visual devices, many used to design the letter paintings, which may be of interest to artists and designers. The book's font, Fifteen 36, was created by Graham Blakelock of York, England, who was inspired by 16th century Roman book texts.
The original paintings featured in the book were hand-painted by the artist with gouache.
