Excerpt from A Century of Intellectual Development With the exception of the last three chapters, the contents of this volume appeared originally in 'the Edinburgh Evening N ews.' The interest which the articles created when they appeared in that newspaper leads me to believe that they will be found of considerable value in their per manent form. The chapter on Socialism has already appeared in the form of a pamphlet, which was published under the auspices of the Young Scots Society. I have to thank the directors of 'the Edin burgh Evening News, ' Limited, for their per mission to republish these articles.
