This is the story of a young boy growing up in a village in wartime Holland. It's the story of a boy fast growing into a man out of necessity. It didn't take long for young Toon Spitters to see how tough life could be as he slept next to an armed German soldier and ran messages about German activities to Allied Command as a member of the Dutch underground. This is also a love story. A boy and girl fall in love during that same war. They face serious challenges, not the least of which was a family split apart by religion. This is a story of overcoming challenges, crossing the Atlantic to build a new life in a beautiful, yet very different country. Finally, this is a story of perseverance, hard work, and love.
