Plagued by a childhood of loss and sadness a Bronx boy of epic brilliance evolves into a loner and becomes obsessed with running as a means of escaping his emotional anguish. Mentored by an Olympic class swimmer and a highly trained combat soldier he develops an arsenal of life saving skills. An act of heroism forges a bond and friendship with the most powerful gangster in America. Deeply in love and faced with induction into the Vietnam War the young Danny Corvo reaches the crossroad of his lifetime.
About the Author
Born and raised in the Bronx Vince married his teenage sweetheart Alice Windus. Married for 49 years they raised a typical American family, one boy, one girl, two dogs, one cat, three goats and two ponies.
If you wanted to learn how to survive the Bronx was a University in itself. While attending grammar school in the Bronx during the 1950’s he was engaged in a over one hundred street-fights and touts winning a mere twenty. Never discouraged by his performance, he believed that losing a fight was always better than backing down and losing your integrity and respect. Ironically, later in life Vince spent four decades as a Martial Art Master providing his students with the kind of knowledge you cannot learn in college.
After a successful battle against prostate cancer Vince decided to return to his passion for story telling in the form of writing. His old neighborhood produced a cast of characters, a diagonal slice of people ranging from petty crooks, nickel and dime number runners to prominent Doctors, Judges and Mob bosses. Focusing on his life’s experience in the Bronx of the 50’s and 60’s he added spicy fiction to the characters and events of that time. Love, vengeance, war and the ruthlessness of Mob life are only part of a lachrymose novel that melds the terrifying likeness between a quid-pro-quo Government and the Mob.
