The epic story told in this book is filled with epic words … words like journey … strength … patience … family … friends … love … support. These are just some of the words Dwight Liburd relies on to relate this astounding tale of building himself back to health and independence following a devastating stroke that could easily have robbed him not only of those foundations of life, but did steal this healthy, vital man’s ability to use any words at all. But only at first. For A Voice of the Voiceless presents, in unflinching detail, how Dwight struggled and pushed, worked and sometimes failed, and finally persevered in overcoming aphasia, the ruinous loss of language that a stroke can deliver in one cruel blow. Words. The greatest signifiers Dwight has of how he succeeded in getting his voice – a new wiser voice – back so he could get to work helping others reclaim theirs.
