On 21 October 1966, thousands of tons of coal tip waste slid down a mountainside and devastated the mining village of Aberfan. The black mass crashed through the local school, killing 144 people, 116 of whom were schoolchildren. Gaynor Madgwick was there. She was 8 years old and severely injured, but unlike most of her friends and two of her siblings, she survived. In this book, Gaynor tells her own story and interviews others affected by the day's events. New edition, updated to mark the 60th anniversary of the disaster. 'Aberfan is a brave, heart-breaking and inspiring journey... It is a book that should be read by all of us in memory of those who died and those who survived.' - Lord Snowdon
