It contains more than 3,500 abstracts of wills, bonds and administrations between 1774 and 1860 and more than 30,000 names of persons mentioned in these records. Old Ninety-Six and Abbeville District are the present-day counties of Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Edgefield, Greenwood, Greenville, Laurens, Newberry, Pickens, Oconee, Saluda, Spartanburg, and Union. Old Ninety-Six District bordered Georgia on its western boundary and was the ancestral home of many early Georgia settlers.
