D. 1817, in Aid of the American Society for Educating Pious Youth for the Gospel Ministry The population of the American republic has risen almost to ten millions, whilst the Whole number of living ministers, educated in domestic or foreign colleges, does not exceed fifteen or sixteen hundred. This number furnishes less than the proportion of one clergyman of liberal education to six thousand souls.
