After the unexpected death of the mysterious Pilot, his brother Porter and mistress Ariel use the experience as their catalyst to undergo a spiritual awakening. Not knowing where to turn for comfort, they rely on each other for laughter and turn to look inside themselves for the first time. Both people raised in turbulent childhoods then have to for the first time realize they have to take care for themselves than relying on their brother/lover to fulfill them. Porter has to overcome his vicious and domineering mother's influence over his adult life, while Ariel has to win over her worthlessness in being disowned as an infant as the result of her mother's drug dependency. At the end they find out through careful thinking and hard work that all things desired are there in place already way before they are ever asked. Affluence is an examination of the struggle in people to overpower the negative influences from their pasts and realize the richness that is buried deep inside the psyche.
