The new Expeditionary AF role coincided with a revolutionary change to preparing airmen through Force Development policies and programs AF-wide. Both events required the AFMS to examine its way of conducting operations. The transformational process entitled "Flight Path Implementation Guide for the Combat Wing Organization-Medical" specifically focused on developing future senior medics and organizational structure. The Flight Path attempts to fix the flaws associated with the OMG while providing a solid foundation for mission enhancement and senior medic development. Although the AFMS Flight Path is moving in the right direction, this paper addresses the cross-functional promotion opportunities, senior leadership positions, organizational structure at the small medical group, Force Development tools, and command opportunities that continue to need refining to optimize leadership opportunities and meet the intent of CSAF's guidance.
