Agu is the author’s reimagined tale of Umuezechime heritage and aims to pique interest in history.
There are many different schools of thought on the origin of Eze Chime. From being the Benin prince, Ehikime, to being a chief who hailed from Nri Kingdom in Anambra and settled in Benin Kingdom because of division in his homeland and eventually fell in love with and married the Oba of Benin’s daughter to a gamut of other stories.
Rather than reprise arguments of Eze Chime’s nativity, Agu celebrates him as the genesis of the Umuezechime clan, which comprises of Onicha in Nigeria’s Anambra State, some of the Ijaw riverine areas and other Igbo speaking areas commonly known as “Enuani” or “Aniocha” in what is now Delta state in Nigeria.
