"I read it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed (if that is the right word) every poem." —Tim O'Brien, the author of The Things They Carried
"Wow…Honestly, I don't read a lot of poetry and didn't think I would like it. However, I loved it; it sucked me right in and I thought it was beautifully done."
Based on primary documents--letters and interviews--and stitched together with memories and photographs, Airmail: A Story of War in Poems is a genre-bending story of one family's relationship to war. It is a book about going off to war, a book about coming back home, and a book about those who are left behind. Written to honor the author's seven uncles who all served in the military, five of them in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, it is dedicated it to them, and to all voices calling out in times of war: "I miss you. I love you. I wish I was home." 144 pages
