Originally written in German language (Deutsch) under "Maerchen der Akan aus Ghana", Akan Fairy Tales is the English version. These are compilation of traditional tales told by the Akans of Ghana. The Akans are the predominant ethnic group in Ghana which include Ashantis, Akyems (made up of Abuakwa, Kotoku and Bosome), Fantes, Kwahus, Akwamus, Akuapims, Bonos and the rest. During the childhood days of the author, the tradition was that, the elders, told stories themed bravery, good deeds which ended with honours and that of wicked villians which always has a sad and unfortunate ending. Stories are told to inculcate in children noble characters to become good citizens.
