According to the ancient writer arrian, when alexander attempted to apply proskynesis to his court, his decision was met with massive criticism from both the macedonians and greeks. And even when he stopped the practice, the macedonians continued to witness their king apply a variety of persian customs in the kingdom. Some said his persianization played a minor role in his death, while others claimed that he died of natural causes. The sources that tell the story of alexander often contradict each other, which can be confusing for curious readers hoping to learn about the great king's eventful life.
You will learn about:
His life beginning to the end
How his mother olympias molded him - telling him he descended from the gods
His love for his magnificent horse bucephalus and the story of their first meeting
How alexander studied under the great philosopher aristotle
Alexander of macedon was only thirty-three years old when he died, leaving behind him a sprawling empire of impressive size, which encompassed dozens of different people groups, religions, cultures, customs, and-of course-problems. Naturally, alexander is well known as a figure, but how well do we really know him? How much of his fascinating story is true, and how much is mere legend? Historians of repute have tried, for centuries, to decode alexander's life and answer all the burning questions above.
