In 2017, Walter Hospen, Associate Deputy Director of the FBI, proposed a new department within the FBI. This would be a small group of handpicked professionals from within the ranks of the FBI. It would contain the best experts from multiple fields. Thanks to his position and who he knew in the FBI hierarchy, he was able to put this team together and garner a large budget to pay for the high tech equipment needed by these experts. The group became known as the Alt. Squad. The mission of this sqaud was unique. They were challenged with investigation of on going cases and cold cases, but with a twist. They were to put aside existing evidence and theories and come up with alternative theories, and explore them. The squad had many successes and these continued under the new director of the Alt. Squad, Cindy Zellor. The Squad and the entire intelligence community were put to the test when terrorists once again attacked the USA on American soil. This series of attacks was the worst since 9/11. Cindy and her Squad were brought in immediately and true to their mission; they began exploring alternatives to the existing evidence and theories. What they found was beyond anything anyone could have imagined. The race to verify and present their findings would be complicated by forces they had not anticipated.
