American Historiography: Redefining Black Women Historians examines how historiography has shaped past and present definitions of who is considered a historian. A race-and gender-based analytical lens examines the contributions of Black women educators, scholars, and activists who have reshaped the definition of a historian. The book examines the role of history in schools, showing how the social studies curriculum influences students’ perceptions of who and what defines the United States of America’s history. This book centers on Black women historians such as Anna Julia Cooper, Leila Amos Pendleton, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, Pauline Hopkins, Susie King Taylor, and Laura Eliza Wilkes.
