Chicago filmmaker Ellie Foreman tackles her most dangerous case yet in this dark thriller. An Image of Death sees Ellie in the midst of producing another video documentary, financed by a successful Chicago real estate developer.
But things take an unexpected turn one winter night when a mysterious package arrives on Ellie’s doorstep. Inside is a surveillance video apparently showing the murder of a young woman. Who was the victim, why was she murdered, and what is her connection to Ellie?
With help from Police Officer Georgia Davis, Ellie begins to uncover the victim’s dark history, forged in Eastern Europe at the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union. Her search for answers takes her into the murky world of money laundering and diamond dealing, where she ultimately ends up at a construction site in the hands of people who believe she knows too much.

"A powerful tale... Hellmann is adept at welding technical information to strong characters... Foreman's pluck and grit married to Hellmann's solid storytelling should win a growing audience... " Publishers Weekly
"Not only has Hellmann created a compelling group of believable characters, but the mystery she places them in is likewise plausible and engrossing. An Image of Death is highly recommended, even if you don't live in Illinois..." Chicago Sun-Times
"As she did in her first two books in this strong series, Hellmann makes sure that images captured on video play an important part in the action. And she balances Foreman's personal life...with her complicated, dangerous frontstory..."
Chicago Tribune
"A chilling subject matter, intriguing psychological suspense, and disturbing Eastern European connections recommends this to collections..." Library Journal
"A smashing addition to the series..." Midwest Book Review
