Excerpt from An Oration Delivered Before the Philadelphia Medical Society: February 19, 1831 I must therefore beg your permission to wander from the oft trodden track, to select from the innumerable objects for meditation which our profession affords, one which will be worthy of your attention, and of the occasion which has called us together. The subject on which I propose to address you concerns our own well-being. It has reference to the preservation of health, which is justly said to be the source of all earthly blessings.
