Aruora vigil, my great grandmother, lived in New Mexico in the 1800's. She was a member of an old Hispanic family. Her ancestiors had settled in the American Southwest three hundered years before. After the death of her first young husband, Aurora was plunged into depression. She and her two small sons were dependent on the care of her fathers family. When she recovered from from her first husband's loss, Aurora married an Anglo lawyer. She was drawn to the exciting changes that he brought to her baloved state. But she was soon caught between her old Hispanic roots and the new world of her influential husband. Aurora was just beginning to find where she belonged when she suffered another loss. As she struggled to hold on to reality, her two sons drifted toward her Hispanic family.
