The stories in "Beasts and Super-Beasts" often feature characters from the upper class and aristocracy of early 20th-century England. Saki's writing is characterized by sharp wit, clever wordplay, and a keen sense of irony. His stories frequently employ dark humor and absurdity to comment on the social conventions, hypocrisies, and foibles of his time. The title of the collection, "Beasts and Super-Beasts," suggests a play on the idea of human beings as animals, and many of Saki's stories indeed depict human nature in its more uncivilized and absurd forms. The "beasts" in the title refer to the flawed and often foolish characters who populate his stories, while the "super-beasts" represent those who are particularly obnoxious or outrageous. Some of Saki's recurring characters, such as Clovis Sangrail and Reginald, make appearances in this collection. Saki's stories often involve elements of the supernatural, the macabre, or the unexpected twist, adding to their satirical and entertaining nature. While Saki's works are primarily known for their humor, they also provide insightful commentary on the manners, mores, and absurdities of the British upper class during the Edwardian era. His writing style, which combines social commentary with humor, has earned him a lasting place in the realm of classic English literature.
