He stepped a little closer. "You read her manuscripts because you know her, right? Because you're friends?" Isabelle nodded with a smile and tried to pretend she wasn't thrilled he called her beautiful. "Well then," he said. "You're judging those manuscripts by the cover. It just so happens in this case, the cover is your relationship with your friend." "That's just silly," she said. There was more laughter and Chris said, "You have to give me a chance to convince you." "Go ahead," she laughed. "Not in front of these Cretins," he said with a smile. "Tomorrow night, dinner." "I'm busy tomorrow night," she said. When the others laughed and hooted, she said, "But I'm free day after tomorrow. How about then?" She hadn't intended to go out with him but something about the others teasing decided it for her. To his credit, Chris didn't look at them at all.
