In Deliberations, Constantina turns her unflinching gaze inward, moving through love, grief, longing, and spiritual restlessness with the honesty of someone who has never learned to look away. With a voice by turns tender and fierce, confessional and contemplative, she addresses the people, the absences, and the unnamed forces that have shaped her interior life.
From a love that refuses convention, to dismantling a life piece by piece, to sitting with an unknown God whose presence is felt most keenly in absence, Constantina writes from inside the full complexity of being human and remaining honest about it.
These poems will resonate with anyone who has loved imperfectly, grieved without resolution, or stood restlessly at the threshold of a life still becoming. They do not offer answers so much as companionship, the reassurance that someone else has sat in that same darkness, looked it full in the face, and found there, quietly woven through everything, the subtle threads of grace.
About the Author
Dr. Constantina Ann Clark was a poet, educator, and lifelong student of philosophy, religion, and the human spirit. An award-winning poet honored with the Faulkner Award and the Dancing Poetry Award, she earned her PhD in Philosophy and Religion.
In her own words, she was a "humanoid" living within a soul, always remaining, by her own joyful admission, something of a mystery to herself. A devoted wife of nearly 46 years to her husband Raymond and proud mother of nine, Constantina found deep joy in family, nature, travel, animals, literature, and the beauty of the world. Her writing refl ects her love of humanity, her spiritual curiosity, and her fearless honesty about life’s joys and sorrows. Constantina passed away on May 4, 2023, after a courageous battle with AML leukemia.
Deliberations: Reflections on Soul Contemplations is one of four poetry collections published posthumously, continuing a legacy of beauty, wisdom, and unflinching humanity.
