This circumftance, fiom the novelty of the thing, and from the admiration in which the character of F rederie was held, had an almof't magical influence on all the oplnlons of the age. It would, however, be equal to ingra titude towards the manes 'of this furprifing monarch, to 0 mit mentioning in this place, that the fyflem of his own practi cal philofophy has been held out, both by divines and laymen, as complete and downright Atheifm wheteas it is now clear and uniformly admitted by found and unprejudiced inquirers, that it amounted to nothing more than fimple Deifm.
