With the help of many devoted volunteers, avid walker and history enthusiast Peter Hendrickson crafted this 75-mile signature trail, made up of a dozen sections that highlight the city's diverse neighborhoods, historic landmarks, and parks - many designed by the Olmsted Brothers in the early decades of the twentieth century. From Phinney Ridge to Rainier Beach and from thebeaches along Puget Sound to the shores of Lake Washington, walkers of all abilities can enjoy accessible routes while exploring the city's green spaces and getting glimpses into Seattle's cultural and architectural history.
Each section is easy to access via public transit, with convenient amenities such as public toilets and coffee shops noted along the way, while a variety of return options allow walkers to choose their own adventure. With Emerald City Trail in hand, walkers can connect with the city's storied past, vibrant communities, and beautiful parks, all while enjoying a flexible, easy-to-navigate urban adventure.
