Since its first release in 1999, Ferns of Grey & Bruce was a very popular guidebook throughout Canada. Out of print for several years, now this 2th edition publication has been completely updated and revised for each of the 50 fern species recorded in Bruce and Grey. Ferns of Grey & Bruce includes provincial and local conservation status, Species at Risk ranking, updated scientific and common names, descriptive text, silhouettes by Nels Maher and photos by Willy Waterton. Anecdotal information for the plants are included, along with new photographs showing each fern in its habitat, a close up of the sori and a photo of the entire plant. Bruce and Grey counties are unique, with the Niagara escarpment running throughout and with Georgian Bay on one side and the main body of Lake Huron on the other. The high calcium content of the escarpment dominates the soils and wetlands. Combined, all of these factors create a variety of habitats suited to the 59 species of ferns, of which nine are hybrids. This represents 70% of the species found in Ontario. ©2024Photos by Willy Waterton
