The volume assembles papers by 27 scholars from Quebec, France, Germany and Russia on various problems posed by the lexicology of Canadian French. The proceedings of the 4th international colloquium "Français du Canada - Français de France" are an attempt to give further impetus to the in-depth comparison between Canadian and French lexis. The questions broached are wide-ranging indeed: origins and relations of traditional Quebec vocabulary; new facts and perspectives on Quebec lexis; present problems of the lexicology of Quebecan French; state of lexical research in the three regions of Quebec; work in progress on Acadian and Manitoban lexis; Quebecan French and Swiss French; and the differences and similarities between regional forms of French. The final chapter presents the conclusions of the colloquium.
