Blending non-traditional art history, experimental poetry, and studies of visual art, this book-length lyrical essay explores everyday life as a textile, as a poem.
A meditation on textiles and poetry, Hinge: Remember Me to Textiles proposes that a line of thread is at the basis of every act of writing, making, belonging, and politics. The book is a sister to the recently published My Penelope , a book of collected essays spanning Jill Magi’s thirty years of teaching and thinking through art and poetry. Via autobiographical sketches, commentary on authors and artists, discussions of artworks and the craft of politics, this book makes a lyrical argument for a textilic disposition: making a life of lines as we go along rather than attempting to fulfill the plan of a prescribed life.
