Synopsis
At twenty-three, Libby Thomas thought she had found her fairytale in Victor Blackwood. Handsome, wealthy, and thirty-six, Victor swept her off her feet with lavish dates, endless devotion, and the promise of absolute security. But the moment Libby moved into his pristine hilltop estate, the romance transformed into a suffocating web of control. Victor systematically dismantled her life—forcing her to abandon her career, isolating her from her friends, and dictating every detail of her existence.
When Victor’s dominance escalates into outright physical abuse, Libby makes a desperate bid for freedom. She flees into the night, determined to rebuild her life from the ashes. But her escape is short-lived. Weeks later, a startling discovery changes everything: she is pregnant with Victor’s child. Knowing she cannot survive on the run while carrying his heir, Libby makes the agonizing decision to return to the ridge.
To her surprise, Victor welcomes her back with open arms, transforming overnight into the model of a devoted, repentant husband. Throughout her pregnancy, he spoils her, caters to her every need, and promises that the dark past is behind them. Libby lets herself hope that the child has finally brought out the man she originally fell for.
The illusion shatters the moment the baby is born. With an heir secured, Victor drops the facade, reverting to his cold, sadistic nature with terrifying intensity—this time aided by the complicity of the live-in nanny he has taken into his bed. Trapped once more, but now fiercely protective of her newborn child, Libby realizes that running will never bring true freedom.
To save herself and her child, Libby stops trying to escape the monster—and decides to end him.
