Cassandra Baker is a wealthy, semi-retired widow whose children are nearly grown. On the surface, all is well, but she misses her late husband, Edward. He was her soulmate, the only man she truly loved, and because of this, she has resigned never to marry again.
So, when she accidentally asks The Baker Brewing Company's new brewmaster, Colin McAllister, on a date, she's not sure how it happened. Physically, he's the opposite of Edward. Colin is a hard-working blue-collar guy covered in tattoos, with fading ginger hair and a heavy Irish accent. But like Edward, Colin is soft-spoken, kind, well-mannered, and the kind of man who could make her happy.
Nevertheless, there are obstacles to overcome before Cassandra can decide if she wants to open herself to love. Her oldest daughter, Hope, is not only Colin's boss but has yet to work through the grief of her father's passing which she now expresses as anger and petulance. In addition, Cassandra is surprised to discover that her best friend, Brian, wants her romantically when she gets involved with Colin, and he's angry when she won't acquiesce to him.
Even if she can manage it all, Cassandra wonders if the man who made her mouth water at first sight is willing to be content with the vow she made to herself so that they might build a life together.
