The 5,000 plus obituary notices were extracted from six early Kentucky newspapers and published in The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society. The Newspapers from which they were abstracted from: the Observer & Reporter, the Kentucky Gazette, the Reporter, the Kentucky Reporter, the Observer, the Argus of Western America and . Most entries give the name of the deceased, place of residence, name of spouse, names of parents and other survivors, date of death, and other genealogical data. The new Index that was created for this book mentions approximately 7,000 persons.
