In this context, Latin American cities became a laboratory of modernity: the urban emerges here as an episteme. This book analyses the complicity between the economy and culture in the project to modernise Latin America through urbanisation, focusing on the relationship between knowledge and power. It also discusses the key concepts around the paradigm shift of the spatialisation of cultural analysis in the debate on Latin American cultural theory that emerged as a response to these radical processes of urban transformation, already experienced in cities such as Bogot, So Paulo, Brasilia and Mxico. Likewise, tracing a genealogy of the discourse of the city, it presents a theory of the urban that facilitates a global critical perspective aimed at the redemocratisation of space.
