Frank Jack was as down on his luck as any man could get. His wife had walked out on him, without warning, he'd lost his job, and he was depressed beyond belief. Just when he thought his life couldn't get any worse, he was proven wrong by a visit from the son of a local crime boss and loan shark. Believing his original debt had been written off, Frank tries to convince Thomas Doyle that his father had forgiven the loan just before he died. Doyle, however, had no proof and, therefore, refused to believe it. Frank begins a desperate attempt to gather the money owed, reaching out to an old friend, only to have one of Doyle's hired henchmen beat Charlie to death for something he'd overheard Charlie confess. After receiving a beating that should have cost him his life at the hands of another of Thomas Doyle's hired thugs, a twist of fate brings Maggie, his beloved and estranged wife, to the rescue with his share of a winning lottery ticket and a plea to come back home. Only then does Frank Jack realize that life alone is far better than a life filled with grief.
