The origin of "My Wife Suggested Crete" was a week's package holiday, by the author and his wife Jennie Feryhough, to a Greek island at the southern edge of Europe in 2011. Little did they then realise how completely they would succumb to the charms of this island and its inhabitants. This is the story of how it happened. A lifetime interest in history and landscapes, together with a grounding in the hospitality industry, all contributed to his growing fascination with the island of Crete and her people. Having reached retirement age and now with numerous Cretan holidays happily remembered in countless photo albums, Hugh felt it was time to put pen to paper.
