Space exploration has entered its golden age. Humans have not only set up camp on Mars – having established an expansive base there – but also built a giant floating city in space. Space City, orbiting five hundred miles above Earth's surface, shines as a testament to mankind's unstoppable expansion in the solar system.
It is here, at Space City, that the passengers for the season's last flight to Mars converge. Preparing for their upcoming flight via a mandatory weeklong orientation are two distinct groups of passengers. In one group are several young recruits hired to work on Mars in positions such as firefighter and line cook, while in the other are students from an elite university headed to Mars for a prestigious internship program. As becomes abundantly clear during their time at the luxurious Space City and aboard the flight itself, the world sees the recruits as misfits among the worthy.
But aboard their flight on the cutting-edge Martian V spaceship, they are all just passengers. When the ship goes missing, they will have to figure out a way to survive, even if it means gambling with their very lives. With time running out, they decide to take a giant leap of faith. But can they pull it off – and how?
