This volume contains entries from Petersburg City, Virginia Hustings Court Deed Book No. 1, 1784-1790 beginning on page 339 and ending on page 550 for courts held September 5, 1787 through May 4, 1790; and Book No. 2, 1790-1801 beginning on page 13 and ending on page 64 for courts held June 7, 1790 through September 6, 1790. Records include deeds, letters of attorney, bonds, etc. At the time of these records, the City of Petersburg was comprised of several locales with names such as Blandford, Blandford Hill, Bollingbrooke, Gillfield, Pocahontas, Ravenscroft, etc. These locales also were in the counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, and Prince George. In addition, the records contain names of persons claiming residence in various counties in the general area of Petersburg, such as Amelia, Brunswick, Charles City, Charlotte, Halifax, Greensville, Henrico, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Powhatan, and Surry. Persons from other Virginia counties such as Amherst, Norfolk, and Spotsylvania also appear in these records, as well as persons from the states of New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and from Baltimore Town and Baltimore County in Maryland. An index to full-names and places adds to the value of this work.
