Project Blue String and Other Failed Instructions
Stories from the Edges of a Rebooted Reality
What happens when the world glitches, but never quite crashes?
In this fourth Dystopocon collection, Cody Poston returns with eighteen stories that walk the thin, shimmering line between absurdity and truth, bureaucracy and chaos, hope and hopelessness. From AI wingmen who misunderstand flirting at a molecular level, to interdimensional lizards earning community-service badges, to crows running poker rings in the ruins of Tulsa, these tales explore the strange, tender corners of a universe that keeps rebooting itself for no good reason.
You'll meet Glen, the exhausted iguana in charge of preventing extinction-paperwork disasters; Saul, the last lineman of the wasteland, deciphering Morse-code ghosts with a flock of cheating crows; Godzilla herself, now a delicately-sashed Girl Scout with anger-management patches; and the long-silenced Jeremiah Bullfrog, finally ready to reveal the real story behind "Joy to the World"—and why he still holds a grudge.
And woven through it all is Project Blue String: a series of lingering mysteries about lost weapons, forgotten islands, and the threads that tie memory to reality… even when reality stops cooperating.
Darkly funny, unexpectedly heartfelt, and just earnest enough to hurt a little, this anthology is for anyone who's ever felt like the universe was running on outdated instructions—and doing its best anyway.
