About the Author
Everyone knows that a rooster’s job is to sing and wake up those around him. In this heart-warming story, Ricky the Chickee, who can’t carry a rooster tune, struggles because he stutters. For three generations, his family has had an important job. Can he overcome this disability in time to carry on the proud family tradition of waking up the King of Kawaii?
This story teaches children the importance of caring, overcoming bullying, determination, and helping those who do now know how to help themselves. The children will also be introduced to common Hawaiian words and a little about the history of Hawaii.
“The book has a great story about overcoming challenges and adversity to accomplish a dream with persistence, determination, and hard work through rich immersion in Hawaiian history and language. In addition, you’ll see beautiful illustrations on every page that help bring the characters to life! As a teacher and parent to a young daughter, I appreciate the message that you can become anything if you put your mind to it. I highly recommend this book.”
- Uriel Valencia, MA, Educational Administration, Elementary School Teacher
