It is autumn in Venice. Returning to the city she loves after a long absence, Australian journalist Netti is flooded with memory and emotion. For her it is a place of love and heartbreak, to which she is reluctant to return. She has been sent to Venice by her boss, Max, who knows she needs to face her past. When Netti sets herself on the mystery of an old woman apparently drowned by suicide, she thinks she can find a good story, and use it to distract herself from memories of her former lover, Marco. As she talks to the local people, hearing rumours of blackmail and murder, she increasingly finds that no-one can be trusted. Meanwhile, it slowly becomes clear that her relationship with Marco, and the secrets they kept from each other, is a truth that she cannot avoid facing.
