Excerpt from The Coachman's Club, or Tales Told Out of School I think it was a piece of poetry I wrote about our coach that first gave me a taste for pen and ink. We used to carry the same passengers pretty Often in the season, and Old Jim Dolby, who was our driver, and one Of the best whips on the road, having taken a fancy to me from the first, and always saying, Come along, John, when he went in to have a drink when we were changing horses, I got to be well known to most Of them, and, what with tips and one thing and the other, I did very well.
