"Move!" Andrew commanded as he pushed Heather and Steven non-too-gently past the iron bars. Donald was barely past the bars himself with Andrew slammed the gate shut. The lock re-engaged immediately, which was fortunate for no sooner had the gate closed than the pursuers slammed against the bars, pushing with all their might and cursing.
"MacLean!" one of the men yelled in frustration.
"Sorry," Andrew said, feigning sincerity, "but strangers are not allowed in the castle. I believe you know the way out."
"You will not elude King Gallard much longer," the man sneered. "Your years on the run are coming to an end."
"To that, I cannot disagree," Andrew replied. "I will welcome the end of my journey. But for now, I believe I will continue my journey this way, toward daylight."
"And into Gallard's hands," the man responded smugly. "There is no escape for you that way. By now Gallard is well on his way to breaching the castle's defenses. Enjoy the last few moments of your freedom...and your life."
"I shall. And I wish you much enjoyment of your return trip through the dungeon," Andere replied and led his small group to daylight.
