The Hoodie is a collection of stories depicting some of the challenges faced by our youth today. Many children are misunderstood by society, peers, and even family members. This book reveals the importance of relationships, understanding, listening, and unconditional love for children. The Hoodie allows the reader to "walk a mile in another's shoes" so that they can understand the child for who they are versus what messages society tells us about them. Hoodies have a bad reputation in society due to media and unjust biases that have been formed due to a small number of situations. Our youth today wear hoodies on a daily basis and in every season. Some wear the hoodie just because it's comfortable and others wear the hoodie to cover hurt, pain, and their differences. The Hoodie is sometimes used as a cover. Remember, there is always more than meets the eye. Dr. Sharon F. Shum has devoted her life to supporting children. She has spent 25+ years in public education, owns her own business, taught as an adjunct professor, and is a children's book author. Beside writing The Influence of Written Formative Feedback on Student Learning in Elementary Mathematics (2016), her work includes the children's book Somethin' Out Of Nothin' released in 2023 and now The Hoodie. She has always felt blessed to work with and for children. She wants to use her stories to share their voices and perspectives. Her belief that all children deserve the opportunity to succeed and have wonderful lives at the heart of everything she does.
