The Odd Collection is a buffet of beauty. A magazine-like collection of poems and stories, observations and imaginations all woven with the same highly personal hand. Turner takes the reader from the fantasy of the afterlife to the hard coal face of Lancashire history, from lunch at the café to a child's excitement at the circus all with a charm and reality that makes you eagerly follow, reflect, then put the kettle on and get ready to start the next adventure. She writes like your best friend, confiding in the reader her secrets of a hundred lifetimes and whispering the stories that only you will ever hear. The Odd Collection is an unusual work. A seemingly disparate gathering of writings that display a hugely active and brightly coloured imagination where the author's personality shines through binding together a banquet of words that can be nibbled or gorged. I challenge any reader not to consume The Odd Collection in one sitting, and feel curiously satisfied.
