The Shallowest of Men is a fictionalized version of an actual 6 year criminal investigation in Mexico, Europe, the U.S. and beyond, personally conducted by the author. The case commenced in 2001 in Mexico City when a Bank Branch Manager in an affluent neighbourhood of the city was brutally tortured, murdered and thrown into a ditch in a rural area 60 miles outside the city. The murder remained unsolved which resulted in the author and the bank’s investigative team looking at motive. A $23MM fraud was uncovered with funds being transferred from Mexico to Switzerland then back into the U.S., where they were ultimately used to purchase 2 aircraft. The investigation revealed that the second largest drug cartel in Mexico were behind it all and responsible for the torturing, the murder, the fraud and the laundering of funds. Seizure action on one of the aircraft followed and evidence was provided to the Mexican authorities in support of criminal charges and convictions for fraud and money laundering. To this date no one has ever been charged with the murder. The Shallowest of Men takes us on an investigative journey into the distorted minds of a drug cartel, driven by greed and inspired by visions of wealth and power. It defines the level of corruption that exists within and throughout the highest levels in Mexico, and one man’s relentless pursuit of justice, against all odds.
