In 1928, an unconventional widow aboard a transatlantic cruise investigates two mysteries — a missing person and a murder — centered around a silent film star and her protégée-turned-rival.
Described as “delightful” by Maureen Jennings (author of the Murdoch Mysteries and the Paradise Café series), The Merry Widow Murders series features a plucky, widowed heroine and her tough-as-nails pickpocket-turned-maid as they solve murders and navigate the changing class structures in post–World War I America and Britain.
Melodie Campbell is a former executive director of Crime Writers of Canada and taught creative writing at Sheridan College until 2021. She is the winner of 10 writing awards, including the Arthur Ellis (from Crime Writers of Canada), the Derringer (US), the Hamilton Reads award, the Mississauga Arts Council award, the Forest of Reading Golden Oak Award, and more.
Melodie Campbell was one of four women crime writers featured in The Mesdames of Mayhem, a CBC documentary about why women are drawn to the crime fiction world. https://www.cbc.ca/shortdocs/shorts/the-mesdames-of-mayhem
For fans of Campbell’s Goddaughter mob caper series, the main character in The Merry Widow Murders is the great-grandmother of the main character in the Goddaughter series, Gina Gallo.
