Then it was not fatal heresy to think and write that God may have had great designs of mercy in bringing black heathen into Christian households to be evangelized, or that a care for their souls would make them more industrious and submissive slaves. Jumping at the conclusion that whenever in a book the word slaves is found, the writer must be an abolitionist and noticing that in the Tract Society's edition that word did not occur so frequently, they seem to have seized the bait - and have caught a Tartar.
