This is the captivating story of two identical cast iron fountains made in a Northampton foundry in England during the Victorian era at a time when the cast-iron industry was manufacturing some inspiring and remarkable products. The forty-five feet high jet and drinking fountains are considered to be among the greatest achievements in cast iron engineering. With their elaborate design and classical style, they formed unique landmarks in their public realms five thousand miles apart, one in Northampton's Market Square and the other at the Metro Junction in Mumbai. The book traces the journeys to their destinations, along with the associated fascinating social and cultural connectivity between Northampton in England and Mumbai. Whilst the fountain in Northampton was removed due to its poor structural condition in the mid-1960s, the fountain in Mumbai was restored and re-instated back to its original location in the summer of 2021. The book is of special interest for the people of Northampton and Mumbai in the collective social and cultural history.
