Steven lives in the city with his parents. On a special vacation with them, he begins a new adventure that takes him to a Reservation. There he meets the Grandfather, who is so old nobody knows his age. Red Feather, his cousin, is a big surprize. Grandfather introduces Steven to The Talking Totem Pole. He instructs Steven to place his hand on any carved animal he chooses. Steven reaches out, places his hand on a carving, and the magic and adventue begins. On his visit he is taught many things that open his eyes to the Old Ways, dreaming, magic, and the wonders of the natural world. Steven is shown how to take the knowledge of the Old Ways and relate them to every day modern living. He learns how to build a bridge between both worlds. This is a story for the child in all of us. It answers many questions that we can all have. Using a combination of the old and the new, along with facts and magic, these questions are answered. I believe we all need a little magic in our lives.
