Excerpt from The Woman in White, Vol. 1: A Novel The Woman in White has been received with such marked favor by a very large circle of readers, that this volume scarcely stands in need of any prefatory introduction on my part. All that it is necessary for me to say on the subject of the present edition - the first issue in a porta ble and popular form - may be summed up in few words. I have endeavored, by careful correction and revision, to make my story as worthy as I could of a continuance of the public approval. Certain technical errors which had escaped me while I was writing the book are here rectified. I None of these little blemishes in the slightest degree interfered with the interest of the narrative but it was as well to remove them at the first opportunity, out of respect to my readers; and in this edition, accordingly, they exist no more. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
