The main goal of Tie Wo Mmrane: Introducing Akan Names and Associated Appellations is to draw the attention of readers and learners of Akan language and culture to the aesthetics of names and naming traditions within the ethnic group and to encourage further academic research. The focus is on popular family names (often given to babies seven to eight days after birth) and their associated appellations. Akan people, like other ethnic groups located in West Africa, readily admire and deeply cherish their indigenous names and accolades, and they often perform well-defined and colorful child-naming ceremonies to give thanks and to celebrate the welcome additions to the families.
